It’s hard to believe but 2019 will be the twelfth year of the Leyburn 1940s Weekend – longer, even, than the decade it celebrates!
It’s also hard to believe how successful the event has become. Every year has seen bigger attendance figures than those previously – and for many people it’s become the most important occasion in their social calendar.
We’re determined not only to maintain this success, but to build on it and and do whatever we can to make each year better than ever. But to do that, we need YOUR help.
The success of Leyburn 1940s weekend is down to the time, effort and commitment of people who attend more than any other reason. So we’d like to hear what YOU have to say.

Have Your Say….
What is it – in your opinion – that you like about Leyburn 1940s weekend ?
Are there things we could do or organise better ?
We’re also keen to hear from people with 1940s memorabilia, vehicles or artefacts that we can help display at this years event. We’d love you to get involved.
You can choose to leave your comments below or by emailing info@eyburn1940sweekend.org
Whatever way you chose to get in touch – thanks in advance.
And thank you for your continued support – we look forward to seeing you in July!
We love the weekend because everyone involved are happy, polite and enter into the true spirit of the 49,s. It has become a major part of our annual calendar and we love it.
The whole village taking part is amazing. I have made many friends through the event and feel honoured to be your Sir Winston Churchill on the Sunday.
To be able to respectfully show that we are proud of our country and the efforts of all who gave us the freedom that we have, is the most important part of the event. To teach a younger generation about this decade is important, so that the memory of the era lives on.
i would like to see Natasha Harper back singing and dancing
She is far better than the others
And maybe a Flypast by WW 2 aircraft
One of the highlights for us is the excellent street music performances all over town – more than other 40s events The vintage stalls are also very good. Rugby Club campsite was cheap and close by, I agree flypast would be lovely. Well done to everyone involved.
We came last year for the first time and found it to be a fantastic event. Lots going on and friendly people. Our thanks to all those who made it possible. We have one questions: is the railway involved in any way with the weekend? And one comment: very difficult to find somewhere to sit down and take a breather.
I love the whole weekend and my only suggestion would be a bit more ambience at the Saturday night dance. Maybe lower lighting( no one seemed to know how to do this last year without switching half of the room off) and maybe flags/ candles/ tablecloths on tables.
Loved this event !! Camping on rugby club was excellent and good value. The whole village made a fantastic effort and he chip shop sold excellent gluten free fish and chips !!!! Yum
My only comment would be regards Sat night dance, just lacked any atmosphere despite excellent effort by Jane Darling et all , Hall felt too big , lighting not helping lack of ambience and decorations lack lustre. it could and should have been a highlight event. Saying that we cannot wait to attend again this year.
In the main square a children’s train ride was placed right next to the singing/ dancing/music. It had a noisy bell which almost continually rang and made the entertainment difficult to hear. The train needs to be sited away from the entertainment spots if possible.
The Lindy hop lessons at The Bolton Arms we’re fab, a welcome addition to the programme.
