Event Update – 20th June 2014
NEWSLETTER
Preparations are well underway for this year’s Leyburn 1940s Weekend on 26th and 27th July and we are thrilled to see so many of you already booked to attend the dances on the Friday and Saturday nights and to have booked your camping pitch at the Rugby Club.
Entertainment
Major Swing will be in the Market Place all weekend entertaining you with great music from the era to dance to.
The Fabulous George Formby (aka Paul Casper) will be there both Saturday and Sunday entertaining you in his own unique fashion.
Two local bands will also entertain the crowds on the Saturday – Leyburn Brass Band and Richmond Jam which is a band of young local talented musicians.
Sunday we have pleasure in welcoming the Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band for the first time and are sure they will be a great new addition to the event.
There will be dance lessons held in the Market Place as part of the weekend, so if you need to brush up on your steps or just want to learn the basics of authentic wartime dances, then this is where you need to be.
This year’s Friday night dance will take place at the Bolton Arms in the function room. There is a special dinner dance ticket available for £11.00 per person for those who are just arriving in Leyburn. You can also buy just a dance ticket for £7.00. See the website for more details and a booking form.
The Saturday Night Dance is taking place at the Wensleydale School as in previous years and we are delighted to have Jayne Darling perform on the night as well as Major Swing. “Jayne Darling is one of the top female 1940’s performers, bringing the music of the big band and swing era back to life whilst adding a touch of glamour”.
Tickets are still available via the website or you can purchase them from the Tourist Information Centre in Leyburn during the 1940’s weekend.
