Methodist Church - Leyburn Remembered Exhibition

Methodist Church – Leyburn Remembered Exhibition

This exhibition is going to be held in the Methodist church during the 1940’s weekend. It endeavours to trace the development of businesses in Leyburn and the changes that have taken place over the past 200 years; from a time when the town had to be self sufficient right up to the present day.

The use of each of the businesses premises has been recorded, with the aid of the census returns up to 1911, various trade directories and more importantly, with photographs and reminiscences from the many people in Leyburn who have lived and had businesses in the town all their lives and in some cases generations.
The backgrounds and the circumstances leading to the deaths of Leyburn men during the world wars are also documented.

Change us more rapid now – a commentary on the times we live in, so it was felt important that the business aspect of the town was recorded before people’s memories fade to far.

There is also going to be a display of photographs of weddings in Leyburn which took place before 1980.

The Exhibition can be viewed 10:00am until 4:00pm – 22nd and 23rd July
